Last weekend (10-11 July) I took a trip around Woodwalton Fen and I was pleased to see that the Common Darters had arrived I also got a good shot of a Southern Hawker.

Woodwalton Meadow Sat 26 June 2010

I took a trip out to Woodwalton Meadow this morning and it was very rewarding:

#1 and 2. Large Skipper Butterfly.

#3 and 4. Marbled White Butterfly.

#5. Ringlet Butterfly.

#6. Pyramid Orchid.

#7. Funnel web with spider inside, I'm not very well up on spiders but I think it is a Daddy-Long-Legs Spider, as they make this type of Silk Trap and retreat inside it.

My wife and I took a walk along the River Great Ouse from Houghton Mill towards St Ives, the weather was very good, it is a fantastic place to see Banded Demoiselle's and we weren't disappointed.

Woodwalton Meadow is a small meadow in the village of Woodwalton Cambridgeshire, for such a small site it has a very diverse collection of both insects and flowers.

All images were taken near the entrance I spent about two hours mid afternoon there was so much going on and so much to see.

I seem to have spent a lot of time here lately but it is a very interesting place at this time of the year. here a just of the things that I saw during my walk around the fen.

#1 I think is a Scarce Blue Damselfly, I would like to hear from anyone who knows better as I had difficulty identifying this one.
